Too black, too white: Quarter bunny on the side – Indians in South Africa

One area where HR has been particularly useless is in the effective implementation of employment equity programmes in South Africa. When you put people you can’t place anywhere else in the organisation in HR, you also put morons unable to distinguish between form and substance in a position of power. We have seen a number of large companies implement their Employment Equity programmes based on a rudimentary quota-type system put together by idiots for idiots. At a point in South African history where development and retention of skills are crucial, this is a time to take a long term view – not a “let’s see we have too many Indians in this department so we’ll have to hire some blacks or coloureds now” view.

Wonkie sympathises with Indians in South Africa: poor buggers – first they were too black to get any decent jobs and now they’re too white to qualify. Still, it is worth pointing out that there is a disproportionately high percentage of Indians in both executive and government positions in South Africa – it would be interesting to read any guesses as to why this would be the case.

This is the 6th in BBBEE series of cartoons on affirmative action and related subjects in South Africa. Be sure to check out the previous commentary on incompetent blacks cartoon and Barack Obama is an affirmative action appointment cartoon.
