Confederations Cup, Bafana Bafana and the Gravy Train
“KE NAKO! Now is the time!” said Jacob Zuma proudly as he kicked off the Confederations Cup in style at the Coca-Cola Park stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday. FIFA was pleased with how well the event was organised overall although Sepp Blatter of FIFA expressed disappointment at the poor spectator turnout for the Spain-New Zealand match in Rustenburg – the stands were basically empty for that match.
Bafana Bafana, the South African soccer team, unfortunately didn’t manage to score a goal in their opening match against Iraq. A bit sad considering their last minute threat if they did not receive R34,000,000 (US$ 3,400,000) in additional payments in advance – a win would surely have helped their cause.
In other news, the government’s multimillion-rand tender rigging scandal will prove to be an interesting case study of exactly how Mr Zuma intends to quash corruption in his ranks, or if he even intends to seriously follow through on his firm commitment earlier. Following an investigation by the Auditor-General Terence Nombembe, it was revealed that some R 500,000,000 in government tenders were improperly awarded to their spouses and relatives.

Erm, Wonkie, I think the name is Sep Blatter not Sid Blatter. But don’t worry, it was probably just a ‘tender’ error.

guess paying the players in advance was a big error,my bet is we may not last that long if we play like we did with iraq.

Those players, their coach and SAFA will be a disgrace to our country and local loyal supporters should they lose tonight’s match

Soccer players should be paid on a commission basis. No win, no money.

what a good team Bafana Bafana is but there are minor changes that Santana must make like playing 4-5-1 system and starting with, Khune on goals,Gaxa on right,Masilela on left,Khumalo and Gould central that is backline and Modise on right,Tshabalala on left,Dickgacoi,Sibaya and Pennar in the middle as well as Parker in the striking force

[...] the same chaps that rave about Bafana’s outstanding performance – for example, at the Fifa Confederations Cup earlier this year, that are now also relegating South African coach Joel Santana to the dogbox. [...]
