2010 SA Blog Awards

It’s official – Wonkie CartOOns is a thrilled winner of the 2010 SA Blog Awards. Wonkie scooped the Best Political Blog category and was runner up in the Most Controversial Blog category which was won by Cape Town based news blog 2oceansvibe.com.

Wonkie was surprised to find Helen Zille presenting the award for the category, particularly considering that the Malema vs Zille celebrity deathmatch was one of the most popular posts last year. To be honest, Wonkie was a little disappointed it didn’t get to do a little toyi-toyi and say a little victory speech… particularly given Mrs Zille’s presence at the ceremony. Can you picture it:

“Excuse me, Madame Premiere but I must dedicate this award to my mom, dad, amazing fans and subscribers,… (a few minutes later), but most of all to our comrade JULIUS MALEMA – without whom this award would just not have been possible. So, thank you Julius for making the headlines and just being yourself – this one is for you…!”

Seriously for a moment though, it was great meeting fellow bloggers in person at the Cape Town event which was held at the exclusive One&Only hotel. Below are the other winning best South African blogs in their respective categories:

  1. I can only say congratulations, Wonkie. Not unexpected, either. This blog is a real bladerunner.

Jacob Zuma, you are Julius Malema’s puppet. Just get on with your job and stop supporting overseas countries when you can’t rectify internal problems within your own party and SA first. Remember, charity begins at home. Before your own people ‘recall’ you, come down to earth from your high pedestal and do what you were ‘mandated’ to do, serve South Africa and it’s citizens. Let ‘our girl’, Helen Zille run the Cape as she’s doing a fantastic job at serving all races and cultures together.

Congratulations, Wonkie! You guys really deserved this. Keep up the great work.

  4. Thanks to Pres.Zuma at least he knows an a——e when it opens its mouth.

  5. Congratulations on your win. The night was very blurry but it was fun to meet some of the people usually hiding behind web pages. I wish you much more success in the years to come!

Our Beloved Nelson Mandela, a truly evolved soul, must be devastated at what’s going on in this country at the moment. Unfortunately, NO-ONE could have followed in his footsteps, and I am just so grateful we had him at the helm at the beginning of our long-overdue democracy.
Unfortunately, none of our current politicians inspire any confidence, they all seem ham-fisted, awkward, and completely ill-equipped to handle any of their portfolios, from Health right up to Presidency! And this is exacerbated by the constant arrogant yapping of our incredible, amazing and totally unbelievable President-In-Waiting! I’m not at all sure who’s in charge at the moment, JayZee or JuJu! Either which way, it does not bode well for this country!

  7. congratulations, Wonkie! way to go 🙂

  8. Brilliant Wonkie – well done guys… you really deserve it! Just heard your interview on Goodhope FM with JP Naude driving home from the airport by the way – think you really caught him by surprise with today’s cartoon… nice one! LOL

  9. thanks wonkie – congratulations to you!

  10. Congratulations on the awards buddy. Well deserved. Still don’t see that 2010 Winners badge up though 🙂 Love your work.

  11. Congratulations … a worthy winner indeed! Your blog is an excellent vehicle to keep the spotlight on current affairs (and to allow us to laugh at ourselves!). I am looking forward to working with you in some or other way in the future to bring your material to the attention of our educators and learners.

  12. Well done Wonkie humor does sometimes pay off. To see the funny side of life is a wonderful gift.
