Wonkie Winners – November 2011 Update

As you will likely know if you already signed up, Wonkie held a draw for all eligible email subscribers on Monday, 31 October 2011. It was our largest prize yet – a 16MB iPad… quite a way up from our initial media player, t-shirt and Wonkie pen awards when we first started off three years back! As an added bonus for subscribers, we also gave away 2 media players and 3 Wonkie pens for the runners up!

The winners have already been notified, and we will update this post as soon as we receive their permission to publish their names.

Wonkie would also like to take this opportunity to update readers on progress – to date, Wonkie has captured over 13,000 confirmed, opt-in subscribers (and another 6,000 unconfirmed ones!) Wonkie’s presence on facebook has also been steadily growing over the last year and now Wonkie now has over 5,000 facebook fans.

As always, Wonkie is most grateful for your support and thanks you! To recognise some of Wonkie’s top contributors (Peace, Mzu, a-maize-ingly-corny, Garth, Piedpyper, Madoba, Rio and a few more come immediately to mind) Wonkie is planning to give out some special awards – stay tuned to this post for updates!

Wonkie – 2010 Year End Update

This year has certainly flown by and a lot has been going on with Wonkie staff all over the world. For starters, it was great to receive the Best Political blog in South Africa award for 2010 at the SA Blog Awards. It was even more satisfying for Wonkie that the email and feed subscribers increased to over a whopping 11,300 last month. Add that to the 4,200+ fans on facebook and that makes for quite a huge following for a blog. So thank you all for reading and commenting – Wonkie appreciates it!

Now Wonkie has received some feedback and a few suggestions for topics which should be covered going forward. Before Wonkie makes any changes though, it would be great if you would please let us know your thoughts by completing the quick poll below:

Wonkie update

Friday, 17th September was the last day to vote for Wonkie in the 2010 South African blog awards – for those of you who did, Wonkie would like to extend a warm, appreciative thank you. [Updated: 26 Sep 2010] Your vote certainly did count and helped Wonkie walk away with the best political blog in South Africa award for 2010.

As a general update, Wonkie has just reached over 11,000 email subscribers now and is still growing strongly – thanks again for your support!

NB: The next draw for the media player for all email subsribers is at the end of October so stay tuned!

Wonkie Summer-Winter Holiday

Caught up in the spirit of the moment in South Africa, Wonkie will be taking a short break over the World Cup tournament until mid-July. It looks like Wonkie has finally crossed the great 10,000 reader mark in terms of daily CartOOn feed subscribers – definitely a pleasing figure and it’s been great to note the recent surge in the number of readers. Thank you all for signing up and please do feel free to drop Wonkie a line with any suggestions… it would be great to hear from you!

Over the last few weeks we have contacted some of our outstanding Wonkie winners from recent competitions and dispatched their prizes to them. CARTOON FREQUENCY UPDATE: Over the next 6 weeks (until mid-March 2010), the cartoon frequency will be dropping to just once a week as the Wonkie team will be distributed all over the world doing various cool stuff.

Just a quick note to thank all our readers, commentators and email subscribers for their support over the last year. The Wonkie team has certainly had great fun making the cartoons, entertaining you all and reading your thoughts and ideas on topical news.

Last year this time, we had just published our first few cartoons and literally had only a handful of subscribers. As of yesterday, we have over 5,500 email subscribers and over 2,000 fans on facebook (Click here to become a Wonkie fan on Facebook today!). There are now over 200 cartoons posted on the site and we are in the process of launching another cartoon site that will be less politics and more general cartoon fun – stay tuned!

Please continue to help us by spreading the word and encouraging friends and colleagues to join our community. Wonkie update and apology!

Just a quick note to thank Wonkie readers for their patience over the last couple of weeks.. things have been a little hectic as all our volunteer team members are roaming about abroad or caught up in their day jobs so we’ve been irregular with the new cartoons – and no, we have not been trying to claim refugee status in Canada like Brandon Huntley!

It’s almost a year since we launched the site and it’s very pleasing to see how it’s grown. We’ve almost hit the 5,000 daily readers mark on Wonkie itself and we now have over 2,000 readers on facebook (Click here to become a Wonkie fan on facebook)!

Thank you all for the support and please do continue to leave your thoughts and comments on each post. Please feel free to drop us a line with ideas for new cartoons, articles and suggestions for improvement too – it would be great to hear from you!
