Over the last few weeks we have contacted some of our outstanding Wonkie winners from recent competitions and dispatched their prizes to them. This is a quick note to thank you all for participating in our various contests – from the Malemodoku (TM) puzzle last year which was a huge hit with readers to our recent Photo Caption contest with the Praying Mantis and the Dog (see the winning entries here)

As for a brief update – Wonkie CartOOns has grown in its short 16 month life to just over 7,000 email and RSS subscribers and a further 2,300+ fans on facebook. Thank you all for your support and please do keep spreading the word about Wonkie CartOOns to friends and colleagues!

CARTOON FREQUENCY UPDATE: Over the next 6 weeks (until mid-March 2010), the cartoon frequency will be dropping to just once a week as the Wonkie team will be distributed all over the world doing various cool stuff.

Just a quick note to thank all our readers, commentators and email subscribers for their support over the last year. The Wonkie team has certainly had great fun making the cartoons, entertaining you all and reading your thoughts and ideas on topical news.

Last year this time, we had just published our first few cartoons and literally had only a handful of subscribers. As of yesterday, we have over 5,500 email subscribers and over 2,000 fans on facebook (Click here to become a Wonkie fan on Facebook today!). There are now over 200 cartoons posted on the site and we are in the process of launching another cartoon site that will be less politics and more general cartoon fun – stay tuned!

Please continue to help us by spreading the word and encouraging friends and colleagues to join our community. Unfortunately Eskom appears to be back with its nonsense of unannounced power cuts for 12 hours at a time so there was only enough electrical oomph in our inverter for one cartoon. The weekly caption contest will be run on Monday next week instead. In the meantime, if any of you come across any amusing, funny photos you think would be good candidates for the caption contests please email them through to pratish (at) wonkie (dot) com.

In other news, the Wonkie team has been busy shipping off t-shirts to a couple of dozen readers, commentators, and runners-up to the April 30 win an mp3 player contest. Believe it or not, the winner and the alternative winner for the mp3 player have not responded to their emails as yet so we’ll be picking another name from the pot this weekend. We’ve been a little slack announcing the names of t-shirt winners on the site but we’ll hopefully get to it over the weekend.

In still other news, Wonkie will be reducing its cartoon output slightly over the next 2 weeks because of the recession (haha). Well, more because we’re upgrading the site to cater for the larger number of readers – we’re up to over 3,500 regular daily cartoon readers now – thank you all, please help us spread the word and email Wonkie CartOOns to your colleagues at will!

Today we happily arrived at a small landmark of the first 1,000 subscribers to Wonkie.com. Just thought I’d write a quick post to thank all the people that have recently signed up to receive the free cartoons by email. Since launching late last year growth has been steady and the stream of comments coming in has been increasing and encouraging.

Please do leave your comment on the cartoon and the issue – the point of the site is to have a laugh and to give you a platform to voice your opinion – even if it is totally contradictory to the post!

We’ve also been receiving a number of requests for cartoons on different themes – from BBBEE and international politics to ermm.. how can I put it – cartoons celebrating racial diversity in the world. Please feel free to leave a comment on this post or indicate in the poll below which of the following themes you’d like to see more cartoons on.
