Premier League champions Manchester United kicked off at Stadio Olimpico using the same formation they used to defeat Arsenal in the semi-finals. The suspended Darren Fletcher was sorely missed in this game and was replaced by Ryan Giggs.
Despite a positive start to the match, Man United failed to recover from Samuel Eto’o’s 10th minute goal. Even Argentinian substitute Carlos Tevez could not help them get back into the match. Barcelona dominated the game thereafter and their outstanding ball control and possession play rewarded them with a well-deserved victory.
Sadly even the dramatic antics of Cristiano Ronaldo were no match for real team talent on the pitch.
