It’s interesting to see how the views have changed towards hiring based on race. The people now complaining about affirmative action were the ones benefitting from it in the bad ol’ days – they may not have agreed with the practices but they certainly benefited from it. While it is understandable that many non-whites feel this is a fair ‘what goes around, comes around’ thing, it is somewhat sad that the persecuted have now become the persecutors.
Clearly it will take some time for the over-correction to balance out and have decisions made on the merit and skills of a candidate rather than the colour of their skin. Hopefully it will happen before cronyism embeds itself as part of hiring practices (again).
This is the 4th in BBBEE series of cartoons on affirmative action and related subjects in South Africa. Be sure to check out the previous commentary on incompetent blacks cartoon and Barack Obama is an affirmative action appointment cartoon.
Mmmm…I can personally identify with this one – have been in that that exact place! (Mr Krugers that is). Had to take a day off work and waste precious time and money to attend what I thought was a JOB INTERVIEW, but turned out to be a joke!(Not white, but also not black enough..)
