Tito “weather the storm” Mboweni is finally squeaking out noises to the effect that the South African economy may not be immune to the current global financial crisis. Wonkie is not sure if it’s the result of Naledi Pandor’s outcome-based education disaster or some severe recruitment errors in financial circles but it appears some senior economists have been quoted as saying the that the IPL will save South Africa from negative growth this year. Now let it not be said that Wonkie is not optimistic. After all, anything is possible but when economists speak, the key is to understand the assumptions they base their allegedly informed analysis on.
Given the spate of recent taxi violence, xenophobia etc and the fact that South Africa is also going to be holding its elections in April makes it a little ironic that the BCCI is considering moving the IPL cricket event to South Africa. But then again, the South African brand of violence isn’t viewed as terrorist activity so Wonkie assumes we meet the checklist criteria on that basis.
Nice one, larneys. I just blogged about what a lekker blog this is. check it out at : http://grubstreet.co.za/2009/03/27/what-a-wonkie-world/
LOL… thanks Gill 🙂
Many were against the IPL being moved outside India. In the end it was a great sucess!
